Halloween gets the miniature treatment on the enclosed entrance porch of the Physick House. Nearly 100 Department 56 pieces and accessories create a small seasonal world of spooky buildings, unusual characters, bats, cats and pumpkins. Visitors familiar with Cape May MAC’s Christmas Dickens Village can discover its Halloween counterpart here.
THE PLACE
The Emlen Physick Estate at 1048 Washington Street is part of Cape May’s Victorian story. Architect Frank Furness designed the 18-room house, completed in 1879, in the distinctive Stick Style. Its preservation helped launch Cape May MAC in 1970, when local residents organized to save the property from demolition.
MAKE A FALL VISIT OF IT
After viewing the miniatures, stroll Scarecrow Alley on the estate grounds and vote for your favorite creation. You can also explore the grounds with Cape May MAC’s free family scavenger hunt; pick up an English or Spanish packet at the Hill House office during its regular hours. Story Stops around the property offer QR-code audio about the household.
PLAN YOUR VISIT
The exhibit is on the enclosed entrance porch, not a guided tour through the house. Admission to this display is free; guided house tours and other ticketed programs are separate. The estate has free on-site parking, bike racks, public restrooms and picnic tables.
